The Office of Eric Schmidt aims to support Eric Schmidt and his diverse portfolio of initiatives focused on science and technology.

The Technical Projects Group (TPG), part of the Office of Eric Schmidt, is a dynamic and innovative technology incubator and product studio dedicated to developing impactful solutions for the greater good. We are seeking to hire an entrepreneurial Full Stack Software Engineer for the Technical Project Group — who will work alongside our team to drive the development of important tools and products for social impact.

In this position you will:

  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment, with a mindset geared towards testing and iterating quickly.
  • Build 0 to 1 products, taking ideas from concept to implementation and launch.
  • Collaborate closely with product managers, designers, and engineers to define and translate software requirements into scalable and efficient code.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies and industry trends, integrating them into the development process as appropriate.
  • Advocate for best practices in software engineering, including code quality, testing, and maintainability.
  • Participate in the agile development process, contributing to backlog prioritization, sprint planning, and code reviews.
  • Conduct thorough testing and debugging of applications to ensure functionality, performance, and security.
  • Analyze and optimize system performance, addressing bottlenecks and improving overall efficiency.
  • Take initiative and demonstrate leadership in all aspects of the development process, fostering a culture where every team member is a leader.

What we are looking for:

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a strong emphasis on full-stack development.
  • Proven ability to deliver complex, innovative software solutions from the ground up.
  • Expertise in Agile methodologies, backlog prioritization, and sprint planning.
    Strong technical depth with the ability to discuss architecture and make engineering trade-offs.
  • Proficiency with front-end technologies and frameworks (Vue.js, React, CSS).
  • Excellent communication skills to drive alignment across the team and stakeholders.
  • User-focused mindset
  • Results-oriented with the ability to thrive in an ambiguous, fast-paced environment.
  • Curiosity and humility – ready to work with a diverse team to solve interesting problems together.
  • Comfort owning the development of brand new products in undefined spaces.
  • Passion for social impact and a commitment to creating software that makes a difference.

What we’d be excited to see:

  • Background in politics and/or progressive political tech, social impact or civic tech, international development, social good sector.
  • Excited by and experience building new software solutions from the ground up.
  • Proficiency with back-end technologies (Python, TypeScript, Go, etc).
  • Familiarity with LLMs, RAGs, and other AI technologies.

$180,000 – $220,000 a year
We are committed to fair, transparent pay and strive to provide competitive, market-informed compensation. The target salary range for this position is $180,000 to $220,000. Compensation for the successful candidate will be informed by the candidate’s particular combination of knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience.

This is an exempt position.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

There will be three rounds of interviews for this position.

The first round will be a 30 minute Zoom video conference with one person: the hiring manager for this role and Head of Engineering, Technical Projects Group.

The next round will consist of multiple, onsite interviews over the course of approximately 3.5 - 4 hours with various team members at our office in New York.

The final interview round will be approximately 30 minutes to 1 hour long. Candidates contacted for the initial interview can direct any questions to our Talent Operations Coordinator who facilitates scheduling.
