JOB DESCRIPTION

MapLight, an innovative, award-winning nonprofit that builds software to improve democracy, is seeking a Product Manager to join our team. MapLight specializes in software to help cities and states provide transparency in campaign finance and lobbying. This role will be working on a project for a government client. This position is full-time and remote within the U.S.

​In this role, you will:

  • Work with internal and external stakeholders to understand client business processes and needs, translating them into software requirements and specifications.
  • Create user stories, wireframes, and other documents to clarify and expand on client requirements.
  • Actively maintain documentation of business processes and needs over time.
  • Work in close collaboration with the engineering team to translate client requirements to tasks, manage a project backlog, and schedule engineering tasks.
  • Participate in meetings about product features and project updates.
  • Become a subject matter expert in the business domains our products cover, such as campaign finance and lobbying disclosure.​

Required qualifications:

  • Minimum five years of product management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience working on large systems and executing large-scale projects from conception through implementation.
  • Strong knowledge of modern software development practices and experience with software development in an agile environment.
  • Experience working with a variety of stakeholders including clients and external teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    Excellent listening skills and the ability to translate feedback into deliverables.
  • Formal project management experience or certification is a plus.
  • Willingness to develop detailed expertise in political influence data, elections data, and other areas of MapLight’s work.​

Candidates who are a good fit for this position will be highly organized and enjoy keeping track of small details.

Salary & Benefits

This position is full-time and remote within the U.S., with preference for applicants within California and able to attend some in-person meetings in the San Francisco Bay Area. The salary for this position is $100,000 to $150,000 depending on experience. This position includes a generous benefits package that includes paid vacation, health, dental, and vision insurance, and retirement matching. A four-day schedule (Monday through Thursday) may be possible within the constraints of project responsibilities.

INTERVIEW PROCESS

The job process includes:

  • Preliminary phone screening
  • At-home exercise with sample scenarios that will be discussed in an interview with the direct supervisor
  • Panel interview with MapLight staff
  • Reference checks
